Strategy: Demonstrate best practice energy management in our corporate operations. AGL has a strong commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions in our own operations. A key element in demonstrating this commitment is to improve the efficiency of our corporate operations and ensure that the electricity used in our offices is greenhouse neutral.

Case Study: AGL takes the lead in the Clean Energy Council

We have met the targets set by AGL over numerous years:

  • All electricity consumed in AGL offices*1  is greenhouse neutral. This has been achieved using a combination of Green Power accredited energy contracts (AGL Green Energy™), AGL Green Balance™(an offset electricity product accredited under the Australian Greenhouse Office Greenhouse Friendly™ program) and purchase of Greenhouse Friendly™ offsets generated from our landfill flaring sites
  • Paper, cardboard, glass and plastic recycling facilities are available in all AGL offices.
  • All employees at our St Leonards office are required to purchase offsets for the emissions associated with their car use if they drive to work.

Limited assurance results are detailed within the Calculation Methods and Assurance Outcomes section of the report.

*1  For 2006/07 offices comprise Canberra, St Leonards (NSW), Collins Street (VIC), Pinewood (VIC), Spencer Street (VIC), Comalco Place (QLD), AGL Hydro Office (VIC), Eastwood (SA).
