As both the largest energy retailer and the largest non-government renewable energy generator in Australia, AGL is ideally positioned to deliver new and innovative renewable energy products and services to its customers.

These include retail products, energy efficiency advice, carbon abatement and solutions to major customers energy needs. A company wide renewable energy strategy has been developed and implemented during the year to leverage this leadership position. One early initiative has been AGL joining the Chicago Climate Exchange, the first Australian energy company to do so.

AGL is actively involved in public debate regarding options for new generation, the development of energy markets in Australia, the establishment of a workable carbon trading scheme and the best means to promote renewable energy.

AGL takes a leading role in a range of energy industry associations.  In 2006/2007 AGL was represented on the Board of the Energy Retailers Association of Australia (ERAA).  As part of the ERAA Board, AGL took an active role in promoting energy market competition and ensuring the development of Australia renewable energy industry.
