Volunteering Program AGL’s volunteering program makes paid volunteering leave available to employees to volunteer for a cause of their choice. Every employee is able to take a day each year, with additional days at the leader’s discretion and for four years now our employees have been supporting disadvantaged Australians in literally hundreds of ways.
Our dedicated Energy for Life consultant helps to connect employees with volunteering experiences that provide practical support to homeless and vulnerable Australians – like hosting a sit-down Christmas dinner for the Mission Australia team and their clients in Surry Hills, Sydney, or a Christmas party in the park for more than 100 of Mission Australia’s disadvantaged families in Adelaide SA. Many employees choose to give practical support to other causes, like green volunteering with Landcare, collecting at the airport for the Salvos Red Shield Appeal, or paint and fix projects for The Smith Family. | Employees are also encouraged to find ways to match their professional skills and experiences with causes that need assistance. This year a number of our People and Culture team and other leaders provided career coaching to a group of long term unemployed people to help them through the challenges of resumes and interviews. Members of our energy services team provided professional advice on a Mission Australia building fit out to maximise its energy efficiency.
Increasingly, over the past 12 months around 500 AGL employees have provided more than 2,600 hours of volunteering services, conservatively valued at nearly $90,000. |
